Status:
Complete - Ongoing administration providing updates and news articles.

History:

Client since 2004, constructed original website and replacement during 2008/9.

Brief:

To construct a suitable website for Vancouver, Canada based actress Sarah-Jane Redmond who wished to have an online presence, resume and place of contact for professional contacts and also plenty of information on her career and roles for her fans. The website was to be managed by a third party who had no web design experience and therefore we used SSI news output from the message board forum to display news on the website. Updating the news is as simple as posting a message in the forum using WYSIWYG functionality.

Sarah-Jane left the design and content to myself but explained she did not want an over the top, glitzy website, full of flashbang effects. Therefore I created a CSS-based cool, fun but highly professional appearance which matches the client's character. Sarah-Jane wanted a guest book, articles, interactive gallery and message board forums in which she could answer questions from site visitors. She also requested a splash page with a fast loading slideshow of publicity images leading into the main news content and site itself.

After completion, Sarah-Jane was delighted with the website and asked me to manage and administrate her website which has been a pleasure to do so. I update the website with news, photos, video clips and articles on a regular basis. A latest news RSS feed was also added.

In 2008, a new and table-less XHTML/PHP website was created to increase accessibility and add additional features (see screen shots opposite). All of the existing video's on Sarah-Jane's original site were converted to Flash video (like Youtube video), lots of new new video content was added, additional RSS feeds and an online store were added for Sarah's fans to order from a range of signed photographs. The existing news articles were moved to a MySQL database where they can be exported to populate RSS feeds. A second database table is used to store Sarah-Jane's film and TV roles, and is used to populate an RSS feed to that fans can keep up to date were her roles.

The feminine, sleek and professional appearence with purple and lilac colors was very popular with the previous site's visitors, and so were re-used and brightened up on the new website.
